Shot/Reverse Shot - This is when a character is shown to be facing one way looking at someone and then another character is shown facing the opposite way which makes the audience think that they are looking at each other.

Eyeline Match - This is when a person is shown to be looking at something and then the scene switches to the object or thing they are looking at. This shows the audience the reactions and emotions of the thing the person is looking at.

Graphic Match - This is when two objects, scenes or compositions are shown to switch and they graphically match. They have many similarities in shape and size although they are usually completely different things. This shows the audience that the objects linked together through the use of graphic matching.

Action Match - This is when an action is carried on from shot to another. The action made in the first shot is then shot in a different way but is continued from the first shot. This shows the audience the link between the scenes and carries on the action in the film.

Jump Cut - This is when one shot suddenly jumps to another shot without the use of a transition. However, they are not random shots but rather shots that are linked by progression. This is usually used to show the audience a jump in time.

Crosscutting - This is when one shot is cut to show another indicating simultaneous action between the two shots and cuts to create and increase suspense. This is used to show the audience that the events are more linked in real time where events happen at the same time.

Parallel Editing -This is when two or more scenes are cut repeatedly between each other to show action taking place simultaneously but in different places. This is used to show the audience the action in both of the scenes.

Cutaway - This is when a shot is inserted into another shot to add to the effect and actions of the first shot. The first shot is normally continuous and the cutaway may be completely irrelevant to the first shot. The scene changes back to the first shot fairly quickly since the cutaway is just to add to the first shot. This is used to show the audience more of the motives behind a character's actions.

Insert -This is when a shot is put into another shot which is from a different angle and shows something not covered in the original shot. This is used to show the audience something further than what happens in one scene.
